1. Here's how many people use each social network

There are more social media users than you think. In fact, some of the world's most popular social networks have over one billion active users. Here's a look at how many monthly active users each of the world's largest networks have:

Keep these numbers in mind when choosing which networks to market on. If you only have limited resources, you'll naturally want to be active on the networks with the most users.

2. Instagram Stories are much more popular than Snapchat

While Snapchat may have created the stories platform, it is no longer dominating the stories game. In fact, it hasn't dominated the space in years.

As of June 2018, Instagram stories had 400 million daily active users. To contrast, Snapchat's entire platform had just 191 million daily active users at the time of the survey (and has actually dropped since).

This means that—unless your brand fits a very specific demographic—you should be prioritizing Instagram stories over Snapchat. Plus, you can even automatically cross-post Instagram stories to Facebook stories.

3. 500,000 people sign up for Facebook daily

Think 2.32 billion monthly active users is insane? Facebook is adding 500,000 new Facebook users daily. This equates to six new profiles every second, and each of these are a potential new user for you to market your products to.

4. Visual media is king—here's why

If you've been reading the Social Report blog for some time, you know we're huge proponents of using video and images in your social media posts regardless of the social networks you're posting to.

Why is this? Simple: posts with some sort of visual media get more engagements. This claim is data-backed too: tweets with a photo get 150% more engagements than those without—a number that's nothing to scoff at.

But it goes beyond Twitter. In fact, stats show that Facebook posts with visual media get 2.3 times more engagements as well.

So long story short: you can't afford to not use visual media in your posts.

5.  Americans really love Facebook

Americans really love using Facebook. In fact, 79% of U.S. internet users are active on Facebook, 68% of all U.S. adults use Facebook, and 76% of Facebook users check it every single day. So yeah, if you're a U.S. based company, you need to be on Facebook.

6. Fake accounts are rampant on Facebook

But not all is good in the Facebook world. In 2017, we learned that there may be as many as 270 million fake Facebook profiles. These may be bots, phishing accounts, clones, or other accounts not belonging to a real individual.

So be safe out there. Always make sure you're engaging with real Facebook accounts and block fake profiles when you can. After all, you don't want your precious paid or organic reach going to waste on robots.

7. 500 million people use Twitter without an account

Not getting the Twitter engagement you're hoping for? Don't get too down: it's estimated that over 500 million people "lurk" on Twitter. This means that they use Twitter to read tweets without actually having a Twitter account.

What does this mean for you? In short, it means that tracking Twitter stats is hard, and you should expect some of your audience to be unaccounted for.

8. YouTube has a larger reach than cable companies

YouTube officially has a larger reach than cable TV.

In fact, it has more reach than the top 10 primetime U.S. TV shows—and it shows no signs of stopping.

But this makes total sense. Over 5 billion YouTube videos are viewed each day, and the average viewing session is a whopping 40 minutes.

So make sure YouTube ads are front-and-center of your video marketing. After all, they're cheaper and more affective than television ads.

9. 84% of people trust online reviews as much as friends

Research shows that 84% of people trust online reviews as much as a recommendation from a friend or family member.

So with that in mind, make sure that you're encouraging your users to leave reviews on Facebook, Google, Yelp, and other mediums. On top of this, also ensure that you're actively monitoring reviews: reply to disgruntled users and try to make things right.

10. Customers will spend 21% more when receiving good social media support

Running social media support? Make sure your customers are happy.

Research shows that customers who receive good social media support spend 21% more than customers that don't. This means that one good interaction could lead to hundreds (or thousands) of more revenue dollars in the future.

So go out there and make a good impression!

11. Most Snapchat users are under the age of 25

As you know from previous articles, Snapchat's audience is largely composed of young people.

In fact—as of 2018—45% of Snapchat users were between the age of 18 and 24. On top of that, 78% of Americans in this age group are Snapchat users, compared to just 24% of 45 to 54 year olds.

With that in mind, don't use Snapchat if your audience is older than their mid-30's. Simply put, people outside the younger age range aren't using Snapchat as much (and likely aren't going to see your content).

12. Post your Pins between 8pm and 11pm on Saturdays

Here's a good list ender: post between on Saturdays 2am and 4am or 8pm and 11pm for the most engagements on your pins according to Fannit. Basically: don't Pin during business hours and you'll get more engagements and repins.
